LATEST NEWS:

Registrations for 2012 are now closed

The final plan showing the locations of all the PARKs will be distributed to PARKers soon!

Registration period extended!

Good news!  There are still some spots left on Adelaide's 2012 PARK(ing) Day route and to make sure that they're all occupied by something more awesome than a car, we're allowing a bit more time for the last few teams to sign up.

You now have until WEDNESDAY 12 SEPTEMBER to register your team for Adelaide PARK(ing) Day 2012.

Don't forget to check out How to Park first!  Site allocations will be finalised right after registrations close, so particularly if you have any special requests, it's best to get in quickly so that there's time to get it sorted before the sites are locked in.  We'll be emailing teams to confirm registrations soon and more info is on the way.  In the meantime, go ahead and get your creative juices flowing!

Green Space: The Final Frontier

Picture
This year as you explore the Adelaide PARKs, your journey will lead to Hindmarsh Square and Light Square: spaces full of unexplored possibilities.

Maybe you’ll simply roll out a picnic blanket and enjoy a bite to eat, but if you have grander ambitions for enlivening these green spaces, please include your interest on your registration form or email us for more details; adelaideparkingday@hotmail.com

Parking Day 2012 on the streets of Adelaide September 21st...

PARK(ing) Day is a global event that was started in San Francisco by arts collective Rebar. Since 2005 PARK(ing) Day has grown to include over 600 installations in over 100 cities across North America, Europe, South America and Australia.

Its based on the idea that paying a parking meter is like 'renting' a public space, and instead of parking a car, why not park something else?

PARKs are surprising, fun additions to the everyday street environments, and powerful symbols of communities wanting to improve urban quality

On Friday 21st of September 2012 PARKs will again spring up all over the world

Where will we be in 2012?

Picture
Last year Pirie Street came alive with the colour and diversity of PARK's along the street. This year, we want to further our impact and connect Hindmarsh Square and Light Square  with  parks along Waymouth St, Pirie St and the laneways inbetween. For those up for a challenge, perhaps a park-and-a-half on Light Square or Hindmarsh Square. Where do you want to PARK?

ADL PARK(ing) Day 2011 a huge success!

The proof was in the PARKing, with 34 official PARKers, over 700 votes tallied in the People's Choice Awards, media coverage aplenty and a far more vibrant CBD than usual. A big thank you to all those who made it a possibility.

Congratulations to the Social Epi UniSA Team of Peter Lekkas and Julie Collins for winning the President's Choice Award. Congratulations also to the Woods Bagot Team that took out the People's Choice Award with 139 votes, followed by InfraPlan/Outside Ideas with 82 votes and Grieve Gillett with 69 votes.

Adelaide achieves number 3 in the world!

In 2011 there were 975 PARKS in 162 Cities across 35 Countries on 6 Continents. With Adelaide's 34 parkers, we achieved the third highest turnout across the world. In 2012, planning is underway to challenge Paris and San Francisco for the title of Number 1! But we need your support!

ACC to provide insurance cover for all registered parkers!

In support of PARK(ing) Day 2012, Adelaide City Council are pleased to announce they will provide the necessary insurance cover for all officially registered Adelaide Park(ing) Day participants!
